CCDC celebrates our 20th anniversary in 2010!
Created in 1990 to implement the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) across Colorado, our work has served
thousands of individuals with disabilities and our policy and legislative work has ultimately benefitted over 500,000.
Our annual Disability Rights Awards honors those whose efforts have benefitted the disability community.
The Americanʼs with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted Congress in 1990 to “to establish a clear and
comprehensive prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disability." The creation of the ADA was unusual
because more than a hundred groups dedicated to disability rights, civil rights, and social justice worked together to
ensure its passage. We take pride that CCDC initiatives have saved taxpayers millions of dollars, while benefiting our
members. Since 1990, we have been the largest organization uniting and advocating for people with all types of
disabilities across Colorado that is run by majority by people with disabilities.
